Существуют 4 базовых типа режима потока (MPF, стр 18): неустановившийся режим (transient flow), установившийся (steady-state flow), псевдоустановившийся (pseudo steady-state flow) и стабилизировавшийся (stabilized flow), или определяемый граничными эффектами (boundary dominated flow). При изменении давления в забойной зоне сперва имеет место неустановившийся режим, когда волна изменения давления еще не достигла границ зоны дренирования. Затем, если присутствует поддержка давления, например, за счет водоносного горизонта, газовой шапки или закачки в пласт, наступает установившийся режим, когда давление в пласте не меняется. Если же такой поддержки давления нет, наступает псевдоустановившийся режим, при котором волна давления уже достигла всех границ, и профиль давления постепенно снижается в процессе истощения пласта, не меняя своей формы (речь идет о ситуации, когда дебиты постоянны, следовательно, забойное давление снижается). Наконец, стабилизировавшийся режим имеет место, когда волна изменения давления уже достигла всех границ пласта, и давление на забое поддерживается постоянным (следовательно, дебиты снижаются, так же как и профиль давления в пласте).
